Törggelen originated in the Eisack valley

Autumn is a great time for a culinary visit to South Tyrol

As soon as the leaves change colour and the first chestnuts fall from the trees it is Törggele-time in the Eisack valley! This tradition originated here in the Eisack valley with its abundance of vineyards and the vast woods full of chestnut trees. An autumn walk through coloured forests and vineyards, followed by a visit to one of the local farmhouses. The newly harvested grapes produce the seasons first wine and the wine-growers will spoil you with some home cooked local fayre in their cosy parlours and cellars. A visit to a local farm is a must to taste their home-made dumplings (Knodel), a meat platter with homemade sausages, black pudding and smoked pork (Schlachtplatte), sour cabbage, deep fried pastry parcels with jam filling and roast chestnuts.
